On Friday November 8th at around 2 pm, Esopus Fire was dispatched for a reported brush fire. While responding car 27 could see a large column of smoke and called for Highland Fire Department with a Tanker to the scene. First arriving units found 2 separate areas on fire. One area was 30×30 and was contained quickly; the second area was 100×50 and spreading rapidly.
A 2nd alarm was requested for manpower. Units were able to stop the larger fire keeping it to a 150×150 area using multiple lines, hand tools and a leaf blower. This fire appears to have started from a wire arching and spread rapidly by the wind.
We would like to thank Highland Fire, TEVAS, NYSP, UCSO, UC911 center and car 56-3 for their assistance at the scene. Please keep in mind with the lack of rain the last few weeks open burning should be totally avoided and a small fire can quickly become out of control so call 911 early.
