On Tuesday, March 11th at 15:49 the Esopus Fire Department and Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad were dispatched to a report of a car versus tree motor vehicle accident in front of the Mount Academy on Route 9W. The first arriving unit was on the scene within 2 minutes and reported a
1 car accident with entrapment. Firefighters extricated the patient using Hurst tools often referred to as the “Jaws of Life,” and were able to have the patient freed within 9 minutes of the dispatch. The patient was transported to Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley by Esopus Ambulance. Traffic on Route 9W was shut down for approximately 40 minutes to facilitate the extrication and treatment of the patient as well as the removal of the vehicle.

Esopus Firefighters were assisted by the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad, the New York State Police, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and Central Hudson Gas and Electric.
