On Sunday, February 17th at 22:29 the Esopus Fire Department and Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad were dispatched to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident with injuries in the area of 821 Route 9W. The first arriving unit was on the scene within minutes and found a motor vehicle accident involving two cars that had both struck a utility pole with wires down and one person still in the vehicle. Firefighters deployed extrication tools often referred to as the “Jaws of Life” and were able to free the patient within 10 minutes. Two patients were transported by Esopus Ambulance to the Health Alliance – Kingston Campus. Route 9W remained closed for approximately an hour. Firefighters were called back to the same for additional wires down at 05:38. Route 9W remains closed with a detour from Esopus Ave to Ulster Ave.
Esopus Firefighters were assisted by the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad, the Ulster County Sherriff’s Office, the New York State Police, NYS DOT, Central Hudson, Spectrum, and Verizon.
