On Friday, April 16th at 07:04 the Esopus Fire Department and Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident, car vs tree, in the area of the Apple Bin Farm Market at 810 Broadway in Ulster Park. Upon arrival responders found a single vehicle that had struck a tree with extensive damage and the driver trapped in the vehicle. Firefighters used extrication tools often referred to as the “Jaws of Life” to free the driver from the vehicle while she was attended to by the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad EMTs. A medevac helicopter was requested but unavailable due to weather conditions. The patient was transported by ambulance to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. Route 9W was closed for approximately 1 hour.
Esopus Firefighters were assisted by the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Mobile Life Support Services, New York State Police, and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.
