It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Life Member Wayne T Freer. Wayne was a dedicated and active member with 55 years of service in the Esopus Fire Department. He served as a former Chief, Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners, and County Fire Coordinator (56-3). He was also a former Town Councilman with 16 years of service and a life member of Esopus Ambulance. Wayne also spent 35 years in law enforcement with the Kingston Police Department. Throughout his life, Wayne held countless other positions that showcased his unwavering commitment to serving his town, county, state, and country.
Wayne had a positive impact on multiple generations of first responders, mentoring and inspiring those who would follow after him. His service to the community never wavered, as he remained dedicated to teaching and helping others until the very end. Wayne’s legacy of service and dedication to the community will never be forgotten. He was a true pillar of this department and our town.
Services for Wayne will be held on Saturday, February 1st, at The Mount Academy. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a chapel service.
