On Friday, July 2nd at 15:33 the Esopus Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a natural gas leak in the area of the Stonehedge Restaurant, 1694 Route 9W in West Park. Firefighters arrived within 2 minutes to find a gas line that had been severed by construction near the roadway. Firefighters closed the road and evacuated the area which included 2 residences. Central Hudson was requested to the scene and had a representative on the scene within 15 minutes and a full gas crew on the scene within 35 minutes. Crews were able to stop the leak within 45 minutes from the time of dispatch. Route 9W remained closed for more than 2 hours. Esopus Firefighters were assisted by Central Hudson Gas and Electric, the Ulster County Sheriff'\u2019's Office and the New York State Police. Over the past 3 days Esopus Firefighters have responded to 9 calls for assistance including a motor vehicle accident, a garbage truck fire, and propane leak.
