On Thursday, July 7th at 11:48 the Esopus Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke in the structure at 1001 Broadway. The Port Ewen Fire Department was also dispatched with one engine to the scene. The first arriving unit was on scene within 3 minutes and reported smoke on the 2nd floor of a 2-story residential structure. Firefighters made entry, located the fire, and placed it under control within 15 minutes. The fire was contained to the area of a charging flashlight and resulted in minimal damage to the building. Fortunately, no residents were displaced due to this incident and there were no injuries. While responding to this incident, Firefighters were also dispatched to an odor of gas at 1 Cross St. Firefighters from both the Esopus Fire Department and Port Ewen Fire Department responded to this incident and found that the odor was due to a gas line being struck in the area. Firefighter checked the building while Central Hudson controlled the outdoor leak.
