On Tuesday, May 28th at 14:13 the Saint Remy Fire Department,
Esopus Fire Department and Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad
were dispatched to a report of a train vs car motor vehicle accident just south
of the Esopus Ave railroad crossing. The first arriving unit was on the scene
within minutes and reported head-on MVA with no patients present in the
vehicle. Firefighters and Police Officers searched the area along the railroad
tracks for approximately 2 hours for the driver and a potential passenger. The
driver of the vehicle was located in a wooded area a distance from the scene
by police and brought to the ambulance by police and firefighters. The
patient was transported to Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley by Esopus
Ambulance. Train traffic was stopped for approximately 3 hours, but local
road crossings remained open.
Esopus Firefighters were assisted by the Saint Remy Fire Department,
the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Ulster County Department
of Emergency Services, the New York State Police, and the Ulster County
Sheriff’s Office.
